Wingstop, Pizza Patrón Founder Antonio Swad Eyes Future

posted on June 19th 2015 /

DALLAS – June 19, 2015 – Antonio Swad, restaurant veteran of over 40 years, has founded and successfully grown new brands regardless of the prevailing economic or market conditions.

He introduced his first restaurant, Pizza Patrón, in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas in 1986 at a time when many quick service concepts passed on the area.  Eight years and four stores later, he used his earnings from the pizza business to focus on developing his newest concept, Wingstop, with the goal of making wings a center-of-the-plate item nationwide.  Today, Wingstop has over 700 locations in the U.S. and internationally and recently launched a highly publicized and successful IPO.

“I was thrilled to see how well the Wingstop IPO went. For me it was just one more validation that it is arguably one of the greatest restaurant concepts ever, by any measure,” said Swad. “When I sold the company, it was already around 100 units open with bunch under construction. It was a fully developed brand with great food and a silky smooth operating system. Still is. I can see many parallels between where we were with Wingstop then, and where we are with Pizza Patrón now. Both brands are unique, and both still have a ton of headroom to grow.”

Swad spent years working behind the counter in both concepts, not only serving as founder and chief executive, but also general contractor, fry cook and customer service specialist.  Swad, 58, is the first to admit that he is very hands-on when it comes to the operation of his restaurants often popping in unannounced to check the quality of the product and service on any given day.

“We have spent the last year and a half getting all of our planets aligned. Pizza Patrón has never been healthier and our team is the best I’ve ever worked with. We are ready to really hit the gas with respect to growth. Our best days are ahead and you will be hearing more about that very soon,” said Swad.

Swad wants to expand but is not desperate by any means.  He says he has learned a lot about franchising over the decades and is very careful about choosing franchise partners because the restaurant business requires a professional and personal commitment that many don’t understand.

Swad says Pizza Patrón can easily sustain 1000+ units in U.S. and that the opportunities outside the U.S. are virtually limitless. The chain plans to announce its new franchise growth strategy in the summer of 2015.

Pizza Patrón Announces Newly Revamped Website

posted on June 17th 2015 /

DALLAS – June 17, 2015 – Pizza Patrón today announced that it has completely reworked its website www.pizzapatron.com to be faster, easier and mobile-optimized. The new design adapts to any device, from desktop to tablet to mobile, to improve the customer experience regardless of the size of the user’s display or capabilities of the equipment being used.

At a time when smartphones vastly outsell personal computers, Pizza Patrón discovered that nearly 70% of its website visitors were browsing on a mobile device. The new, responsive web design also allows for easy adaptation to different devices and any browser upgrades in the future.

“By focusing on the content that matters most to our customers like ‘What’s on the menu?’ and ‘Where can I get it?’ and enhancing the site for mobile use, we can deliver a top-notch experience to guests,” said Andrew Gamm, executive vice president for Pizza Patrón. “Local SEO, content and architecture has also been enhanced and the website has improved keywords for search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo.”

Verifying and correcting the accuracy of store information online was also a critical component of the update as the new site utilizes the device’s GPS to identify restaurants in the vicinity, making finding a location near you easier than ever.

“We completely reversed the focus of our site from franchise sales to food sales and made it 100% consumer facing,” said Gamm. “We also improved the food photography, menu navigation and included nutritional information for all of our products.”

Original Pizza Patrón Store Sets All-Time Weekly Sales Record 29-year-old Store Rocks Chain’s Record

posted on June 16th 2015 /

DALLAS – June 16, 2015 – The original Pizza Patrón store has been open since April 16, 1986.

Despite being surrounded by more pizza and food competition than ever before, it just set the company’s all-time record in an almost 30-year span.

Not only did the original store hit the highest number of weekly transactions in its history, but it also saw the highest unit sales for the entire system during the week of June 1st.  The store’s 2015 same-store comparable sales are up 10% over last year and transactions are up 11.8% through the month of May.

“This store has been around for almost 30 years. Children who grew up eating this pizza now have families of their own in the same neighborhood,” said Antonio Swad, Pizza Patrón founder and president. “Our mission statement of ‘Service to community. Commitment to value.’ is practiced every day here by great managers and a solid crew. I’m not sure where the top is on this one, but it sure is fun looking for it.”

Swad explained that school-party pizza sales were a strong component in meeting the milestone and that the record week outsold Super Bowl week by 28%.

“This amazing record week is evidence that Pizza Patrón is more relevant today than ever before. We are working hard to deliver on our promise of ‘Mas Pizza. Menos Dinero’ and these sale increases tell me that we are on the right track,” said Swad.

Pizza Patrón Lights Up Summer With Launch of New Wing Flavors

posted on June 1st 2015 /

DALLAS – June 1, 2015 – Pizza Patrón wants customers to go ‘Naked’ and ‘BBQ’ at their neighborhood get-togethers and parties this Summer. The chain today announced the addition of these two new tastes to their existing wing lineup.

BBQ and Naked will become permanent members of the popular wing choices on Pizza Patrón’s menu. The existing lineup includes Lime-n-Pepper, classic Buffalo and Garlic-con-Queso. The new BBQ wing flavor profile is bold, tangy, with just the right amount of sweetness. The Naked wing is lightly seasoned, oven roasted with no sauce for chicken wing purists. The five flavorful wing choices combined with Favorita del Patrón pizza options beg the question, “Why fire up the grill in the Summer heat,” says Andrew Gamm, executive vice president of Pizza Patrón.

“We’ve listened to our customers and have developed these two new wing flavors by popular demand,” said Gamm. “Our customers love and crave our wings oven roasted bone-in wings because they’re healthier and they go great with pizza!”

Pizza Patrón wing order sizes include:  8-pieces for $6.49, 12-pieces for $8.99 and 15-pieces for $10.99. Prices may vary by location.

The new flavor releases are supported by in-store point-of-purchase displays, local print and digital media.
